Paranthan (Tamil: பரந்தன் Parantaṉ [ paɾʌn̪d̪ən ], Sinhala: පරන්තන් Parantan [ paran̪d̪an ] is a place in Kilinochchi district in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

Paranthan located at the intersection of the main road A9 Kandy - Jaffna with the A35, 6 kilometers north of Kilinochchi and 12 kilometers south of Elephant Pass.

The place is located in an area that was in the Sri Lankan civil war (1983-2009) fought over by the LTTE and government forces. The strategic crossroads of Paranthan has been repeatedly attacked and conquered by various fractions ( Angang 1990 by the LTTE in 1996 by the government troops in 1999 by the LTTE in early January 2009 by the government forces ).

Before the Civil War there were in Para Than a chemical factory in the Para Than Chemical Company Limited.
