Parapotamos (Greek Παραπόταμοs ( m. sg. ), Albanian Varfanji ) is a village and a municipality of the town of Igoumenitsa in the Greek region of Epirus. The name means translated, beside the river ', indicating the location on the river Kalama.

History

Most of the inhabitants of Parapotamos are relocated for agricultural reasons about after the Second World War Lambanitsa. To date, there are many farmers who use the fertile soil along the river Kalama.

1919, the place under the name Varfani ( Βάρφανη ) as a rural community ( kinotita ) was recognized in 1928 was renamed the Parapotamos. 1990 was Parapotamos municipality ( dimos ), 1997 extended by some neighboring communities. 2010, this community was incorporated to Igoumenitsa and has since formed a district of the same.

The local community Parapotamos home to 754 inhabitants and has a high school and a pharmacy. There are several cafes and restaurants.
