The place is especially known for its annual rock music festival.

History

Dolmens and other finds indicate a prehistoric settlement in the area, and also from the Roman period there are significant findings, such as mansions along the Roman military road passing here.

The oldest document of the place is a correspondence to a gift from the Queen Teresa. Under King D.João I was the site of an independent circuit ( " concelho "). The King Manuel I to the administrative law document (" Foral " ) renewed on April 13, 1515 and newly established borders of the circle of Coura reached to the flow of the Rio Minho.

Received its current name of the county until 1875, when the county of Coura with other communities ( " Freguesias " ) was merged, including the municipality of Paredes, from which the authorities the new official name Paredes de Coura ( " Walls of Coura " ) formed.

Culture and sights

In addition to archaeological sites and a Roman bridge, various mansions, and churches, as from the 13th and 16th century can be visited.

It run through a series of hiking trails, the forested and crisscrossed by streams areas in the county. On the Rio Coura river beach in places, a range of dining and sporting infrastructures have emerged.

Every year in summer ( late July / early August), here since 1993, the internationally renowned music festival, which bears the name of the place. Thousands 'll come to like the performances of bands of different varieties of rock music attend. So in 2011 were for example bands like Pulp, Mogwai or ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead guests here.

Traffic

About 11 km from exit No.13 ( Paredes de Coura ) the place on the A3 can be reached. He has no connection to the railway network in the country. On the occasion of the festival various intercity bus connections are available nationwide.
