Paris Match

Paris Match is a French, weekly magazines. It was founded in 1949 and has since been known ( The weight of the words, the shock of the images to German ) for their motto Le poids des mots, le choc des photos.

History

Paris Match was founded in 1949 by entrepreneur Jean Prouvost. The name was given by the magazine, the weekly match, which was taken over by Jean Prouvost 1938. He converted the former sports newspaper the following year into a news magazine. During the Second World War match was no longer printed. Only in 1949 the newspaper appeared again, but under the new name Paris Match. The format of the new paper had the American Life magazine as an example: They wanted to combine the latest information with reports and exclusive photos. The first Paris Match published on 25 March 1949, Winston Churchill on the title page.

Paris Match was a great success until the end of the 50s. But then the sales decreased continuously due to growing competition and the advent of television. The circulation dropped from 800,000 copies in 1958 to less than 600,000 in 1975.

In 1976, the magazine was acquired by Daniel Filipacchi. Roger Thérond was again chief editor what he was from 1962 to 1968. He remained so until 1999. Under his leadership, Paris Match was again successful and the circulation rose again.

Paris Match is still part of Hachette Filipacchi Medias Group, which is one of Lagardère. The circulation of 688,000 copies ( 2009).

2006, the chief editor was fired after a photo of Cecilia Sarkozy had appeared with their between temporal lover on the title page.

In August 2007, the magazine vacation photos by French President Nicolas Sarkozy published in a boat and retouched in the photos the love handles on the body. This took the weekly L' Express as an opportunity to publish the correct photo. Paris Match said that the attitude of the President in the boat and the light would be an abdominal look overly large.
