Paris is a town in the U.S. state of New York. Paris is located in Oneida County, south of Utica and has 4609 inhabitants ( 2000). The city was named after Colonel Isaac Paris.

History

The town was originally a part of Whitestown and in 1792 independently. The name was given to the city in memory of Colonel Isaac Paris, a merchant and benefactor of Fort Plain (New York), who supplied the inhabitants of the region in 1789 generously with grain and food.

Geography

The city has an area of 81.5 km ². Of these, 81.4 km ² land area, and 0.03 % water. The Sauquoit Creek drains the greater part of the Town of Paris and initially flows eastward and then northward through their territory. The highest elevation of the Oneida County is the Tassel Hill. It lies east of New York State Route 12 on the border of Bridgewater, Marshall Field and Sanger, in the southwest of the district.
