Parkash Singh Badal

Parkash Singh Badal ( born December 8, 1927 at the village of Abul Khuruna, Faridkhot district, Punjab ) is an Indian politician.

Biography

Badal began his political career before the sovereignty of India and joined Shiromani Akali Dal 1947 (SAD) in, a party of the Sikhs in the Punjab. In 1957, he was first to the deputies of the National Assembly ( State Assembly ) elected the State of Punjab as a candidate of the SAF and re-elected as such in 1969 and 1972.

In February 1969, he was appointed by Chief Minister Gurinam Singh as development minister in the state government of Punjab. On March 27, 1970, he succeeded him and was until June 13, 1971 for the first time even Chief Minister ( Chief Minister ) of the Punjab. After the period of inquiry ordered by President management by the central government ( President's rule ), he was from 1972 to July 1975 Leader of the Opposition ( Leader of the Opposition) in the National Assembly. During the state of emergency over the Punjab he was on 9 July 1975 to 19 January 1977 in prison.

He was elected to represent the constituency of Faridkot as a deputy of the lower house ( Lok Sabha ) in March 1977. On March 26, 1977, he was appointed by Prime Minister Morarji Desai appointed Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation in the Union government. However, from this position he resigned already on 17 June 1977, was three days later on June 20, again in 1977 Chief Minister of Punjab. However, its SAD suffered in elections to the National Assembly in February 1980, a defeat so that he lost his position as Chief Minister on 16 February 1980.

Both 1980 and 1985, he was re-elected as a deputy of the National Assembly, in which he was opposition leader again.

After the election victory of his party in February 1997, he was on 12 February 1997 for the third time Chief Minister, said this time he formed a coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP ) was formed, which was located until February 26, 2002 at office.

In advance of the 2007 elections, he again formed an electoral alliance with the BJP, so that an overwhelming electoral success was achieved. On 2 March 2007, he could be Chief Minister for the fourth time. In his new government he appointed his son Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, his nephew Manpreet Singh Badal, the brother of his son Sukhbir Badal ( Bikram Singh Majithia ) and another close relative Janmeja Singh Sekhon four members of his family in the government of the state. In the 2012 elections the ruling coalition were, contrary to the prevailing mood for change mostly in Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal re-elected and confirmed in office.

His wife died in 2011.
