Parke County, Indiana

Parke County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rockville. In the County of Turkey Run State Park is located.

Geography

The County is located in western Indiana, is about 20 km from Illinois and has an area of 1166 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fountain County, Montgomery County, Putnam County, Clay County, Vigo County and Vermillion County.

History

Parke County was formed on January 9, 1821 as original county of free territory. It was named after Benjamin Parke, a delegate of the Indiana Territory, commanding a troop of dragoons easier at the Battle of Tippecanoe, a member of the Congress of the United States and District Judge of Indiana.

Historical buildings
