Parler family

The Parler was a native of Schwäbisch Gmünd family of stonemasons, sculptors and architects who created important works of Gothic art and architecture throughout Europe in the 14th century or co-designed, including the first portrait busts of the modern era, the Holy Cross Minster of Schwäbisch Gmünd, St. Vitus Cathedral and Charles Bridge in Prague, St. Sebald in Nuremberg, the Cathedral of St. Barbara in Kutna Hora, the City Hall in Krakow, the cathedral churches of Ulm, Freiburg and Basel.

The first known Parler is possibly originating from Cologne Heinrich Parler the Elder or Heinrich von Gmünd Elder. built (around 1300-1387 ), considered the first builder of Ulm Minster and the Holy Cross Münster in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The most important representatives are his sons Johann Parler the Elder, Michael Parler and Peter Parler and Peter Parler sons Johann Parler the Younger and Wenzel Parler.

Historically secured the name Parler is only when Peter Parler, but this name is widely used for this family. The name is derived from the professional title Parlier. A " parlerius " or " parlerus " later Parlier, designated a foreman of the building trade, the "speaker" of the Fabric, which has survived to this day in the word polishing.
