Parliament of the KlaipÄ—da Region

The Seimelis ( Memelländischer Diet) was the parliament of the Memel 1925-1939 based in Memel. The venue was the Memel City Hall.

The Memel country, inhabited by the census of 1910 at about the half of Germans and Lithuanians, had been recognized in 1924 as part of Lithuania in the Memel Convention of the League of Nations. However, an autonomy of Memel in Lithuania's was required. The Statute of Autonomy was approved by the Lithuanian Parliament on 8 May 1924, however, which from 1926 had virtually no effect.

Accordingly, the German parties had in the parliament with wide majorities.

State elections

The Diet had 29 seats, one for every 5,000 inhabitants. Women and men over 24 had the vote. In 1930 the right to vote was linked to a minimum age of 30 years. The election was conducted in a constituency. Legal bases were the law concerning elections to Seimelis of 19 June 1925 the Act of December 5, 1928 relating to the acquisition and loss of property as citizens of Memel and the amendments of the Law on elections to Seimelis of 3 September 1930.
