Parma (shield)

The Parma was a sign that was primarily used in the ancient Rome of the auxiliary troops.

Description

A Parma was not domed as opposed to the Scutum, the shield of a legionary of the army, but flat and round or oval shape. In the Republican period, the Parma was carried by the lightly armed velites, under the empire of the members of the auxiliary troops. In addition, Parma was at the cavalry in use. The little sign of the Thraex, a gladiator genus was named Parma.
