Parndorf Plain

The Parndorfer or Parndorfer Heath is a 200 km ² large plain in northern Burgenland. With an altitude of 160 to 180 m above sea level. A. it is between the Leitha Mountains and the Hundsheimer mountains on the eastern edge of the gate Brucker and thus forms the link between the Alps and the lower Carpathians. The main town is Parndorf. Otherwise, the area is very sparsely populated. It is dominated by large agricultural areas.

Due to glacial terrace gravel deposits, the area is not very rich in water. The Lake Neusiedl out partly strongly sloping terrace is about 30 m higher than the flat areas on Lake Neusiedl and the Vienna Basin. Due to these characteristics, a microclimate has developed. Therefore, the heath has a specific flora. But the fauna that live there is quite unique for Austria. Among other things, here live the Great Bustard and the imperial eagle.

In this particular situation in the context of nature conservation had to be taken into consideration when building the A4 east motorway. My green bridges were built and delayed the construction.

The numerous wind turbines use another natural phenomenon. The Parndorfer is one of the windiest inland regions of Europe with a greater Windhöffigkeit than most coastal regions of the North Sea. For this reason, the BEWAG built here several wind parks and business here in the year 2010 138 wind turbines.

In 2013 also were 150 wind turbines in the 3 MW class in construction, of which 79 alone in the wind farm Andau / half turn.
