Parotitis
A parotitis is an inflammation of the parotid gland ( parotid gland ). We distinguish epidemic parotitis and acute parotitis.
Parotitis acuta
This is a purulent inflammation of the parotid gland by group A streptococci and Staphylococcus mutans, which are physiologically found in the oral flora.
Symptoms are a strong painful swelling of lying anterior to the ear gland, the withdrawal of the earlobe. It may cause a pus flow into the oral cavity, occasionally occur fever and trismus.
Epidemic parotitis
This is a synonym for mumps, which is caused by mumps virus ( paramyxoviruses ).
Linguistic history
Previously, the parotitis was colloquially referred to as Feusel or Feifel.
