Parti Bersatu Sabah

The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS, also Sabah United Party ) is a political party that has its roots in the Malaysian state of Sabah. The former Joseph Pairin Kitingan Cabinet Member had left the ruling party Parti Berjaya in 1982 because of disagreements with Harris Salleh, the Chief Minister of Sabah, PBS and registered on 5 March 1985 as a political party. After the election victory of 1985, the PBS ruled the state of Sabah from 1985 to 1994.

Policy objectives

Although the party is widely regarded as the political representation of interests of the Kadazan - Dusun, the PBS sees himself as a " Malaysian multicultural political party ". Their stated policy objectives are the preservation of the autonomy of Sabah and his federal rights, the promotion of democratic structures, economic progress, human rights and justice.

History

After its founding in March 1985, the PBS came on to the national elections in Sabah and won against the ruling BERJAYA. By Sabah crisis, the party was forced in May 1986 to early elections. However, they again went forth conquering, and joined the Barisan Nasional coalition government. However, on the eve of national elections in June 1990, the PBS swerved out of the coalition and won the elections for the third time. The choice in 1994 was the PBS decide for themselves, but only with a razor-thin majority.

Even before the formation of a Cabinet, however, a considerable number of MEPs ran over to Barisan Nasional opposition party. [Note 1] Kitingan was denied the swearing in as prime minister and instead doing Sakaran Dandai was sworn in by the UMNO as the eighth Prime Minister of Sabah.

In 2002, the PBS rejoined the Barisan Nasional coalition government ( BN) for ending their role as an opposition party.

Edmund Chong Ket Wah election for

Edmund Chong Ket Wah, the PBS - MP for the constituency of Batu Sapi, was killed on 9 October 2010 fatal. The 54 -year-old politician collided with his Kawasaki 750 on the road to Tanjung Aru from Sembulan with an oncoming Mercedes. Chong was since 2004 a deputy of his constituency. For the election on November 4, 2010, the PBS Linda Tsen Thau Lin his wife on as a candidate. They successfully defended the seat of PBS and entered as a Member in the footsteps of her late husband.
