Partido Alto

The Partido Alto is a sub- genre of samba. It originated in Rio de Janeiro in the 1930s.

The rhythm pattern is two-stroke, the two clocks have very different characters because of their Offbeat-/Downbeat-Verteilung.

The patterns of the individual instruments are guided by the " direction" of the Partido Alto, which he pretends with his offbeat and downbeat. It is important that the approach of the Partido Alto is different from the typical Afro-Cuban music concept of the clave. In the Brazilian music accents are freely interchangeable and some accompanying rhythms of Samba can also be used in the Partido Alto. The Partido Alto is played often with the explicit Cuica.
