Party bike

A bar bike, in Germany also known under the designations protected Beer Bike and Bike Party, is a four-wheeled bicycle group, which is driven by pedals. In addition, it is equipped with a breakfast bar, a beer tap, and often a music system. Purpose of the vehicle is to allow a combination of locomotion and celebrations. The bar bicycle was invented in 2000 under the name Fietscafé of the Dutch brothers Zwier and Henk van Laar in the village Kootwijkerbroek (village of Barneveld ).

Operation

The bar bike works on the basic principle of the bicycle. The passengers sit facing each other at a table and the pedals that drive the vehicle. A driver steers and brakes.

Dissemination

In Germany bar bikes will normally be rented in major cities from commercial suppliers for parties, social outings and sightseeing tours. In the UK, the Netherlands, the United States and Ireland are comparable vehicles spread. Currently, there are 34 cities in Germany providers in the Netherlands are 27 bar bikes in operation and in the U.S. 20 (October 2012).

Criticism

Be criticized counter bicycles on the one hand because of the often drunken passengers, on the other hand, because the relatively large, up to one ton heavy and slow vehicles represent a significant traffic congestion especially in large cities.

Legal situation

Dusseldorf forbade the first city in Germany to a beer bike owner the use of public roads without a special permit. Against complained the commercial operators by multiple instances.
