Party of Slovak Revival

Strana slovenskej obrody ( German: Party of Slovak Revival ), abbreviated as SSO, was a Slovak political block party in Czechoslovakia and the successor party of the shattered demokratická strana. It existed from 1948 until 1989.

Backgrounds of the emergence of

After the demokratická strana in the Slovak part of the country won a significant victory in the parliamentary elections in 1946, it was under a strong pressure from the Communist KSS and was subsequently liquidated after the February revolution of 1948 as such. From the remains of the party one constituted on 24 March 1948, the new Strana slovenskej obrody.

SSO as a block party

The party was until 1989 a part of the so-called National Front, a merger of the Communist Party and all block parties, however, was present only in Slovakia. Your highest body was the Slovak conference.

After the so-called Velvet Revolution of 1989, it was officially disbanded and re-founded on December 10, 1989 under the old name demokratická strana. However, the attachment to the traditions of 1946-1948 failed and they went 2006 in Slovenská demokratická a kresťanská Unia - on demokratická strana.
