Party of the Democratic Left (2005)

The Party of the Democratic Left (Slovak: Strana demokratickej lavice, short SDL) is a political party in Slovakia. Their orientation is left of center. Its current chairman is Mark Blaha.

The party describes itself as a modern left-wing party. It is committed to equal opportunities, as well as for economic and social justice.

History

Originally the party was founded for the first time under the same name in 1990. 1999, however, split off several members of the party and founded under the leadership of Robert Fico, the Social Democratic party SMER. In December 2004, eventually merged with the original SDL SMER. Then in May 2005, there was a new foundation.

To her first election in 2006 the party could reach 0.18 percent of the vote. In the 2010 general election she was able to record with 2.41 per cent, adding significant gains; but for the entry into parliament gave this not because it at least 5 percent of the votes would have been necessary.
