Party of the Roma

The Roma (Romanian Romilor Partida, Partida Romanized le Romenge ) Party is a political party that represents the interests of the Roma minority in Romania. She was formerly known as the " Social Democratic Party of the Roma " ( Partida Romilor social Demócrata ) known. Its chairman is Nicolae Păun. The party currently holds a permanent seat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies.

Representation in parliament

The Roma Party was founded in 1990 after the Romanian Revolution. It is the official political unification of the Roma minority in Romania and therefore regardless of their electoral success a permanent seat in the House of Representatives. Since its approval in 1992, the party went on in all elections, but so far could not skip the necessary for the attainment of other seats 5 percent threshold. In the parliamentary elections in 2000 and 2004, the Party of the Roma signed a protocol on reciprocal electoral support with the Social Democrats.

The permanent seat previously held Gheorghe Răducanu 1992-1996, Mădălin Voicu 1996-2000 and Nicolae Păun from 2000 from 2004 from 2004 to 2008, and since 2008., The party representatives are elected at the local level.

In the parliamentary elections on 30 November 2008, the party came under the Romanian name Partida Romilor "Pro - Europe".
