Parun

Parun ( paschtun.: پارون ) is the administrative center of the Afghan province of Nuristan and the same named district, which was detached from the district Wama 2004.

Location

It is located about 180 km northeast of Kabul, 60 km from the border to Pakistan. The main route to Parun is the road to Asadabad. There is no connection developed in the east and west of Nuristan.

Infrastructure

Parun is the structural and functional center of administration Nuri Stans and consists primarily of administrative bodies. The police headquarters, the governor's office and various other public facilities are located there. The development of these structures is a high priority for the provincial government. Only about 50 people live permanently in Parun.

History

On 10 May 2011 around 400 insurgents attacked the police barracks in Parun. 23 of them are there to have been killed. General Shams -ul Rahman Zahid, the police commander of the Nuristan province, confirmed the attack on the base and various checkpoints and stated that NATO and Afghan forces have been called in to help. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
