Pasi Nurminen

Pasi Nurminen Johan Olavi ( born December 17, 1975 in Lahti ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender and current coach and functionary who works since 2013 in Helsinki Jokerit in the SM- liiga as assistant coach.

Career

Pasi Nurminen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Reipas Lahti, for the first team, he made his debut in the 1993/94 season in a qualification game. After narrowly missing out with the team in the league, the goalkeeper played in the following season for parallel Reipas in the second-class I divisioona, and their U-20 juniors. In the 1995/96 season the Finn was able to win a regular place in Ketterä Imatra and was also in the following two years after his return to Lahti for his hometown club in the second division between the posts. There he was able to convince in 30 games, especially in his last season with a Gegentorschnitt of only 1.65.

For the 1998/99 season Nurminen moved to HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM- liiga, where he could, as in the following two years to convince at Jokerit Helsinki. In the 1999/2000 season he had with a Gegentorschnitt of 2.25 in the main round a big part in the success of his team and could be in the playoffs following things to an even Gegentorschnitt of 1.83 in eleven games, and a quota of 94, increase 5 percent, which he was a guarantee for reaching the Cup final. For this reason he was called into the All -Star team of the SM - liiga, and received, as the best goalkeeper in the league, the Urpo - Ylönen trophy.

In the NHL Entry Draft 2001 National Goalkeeper was selected in the sixth round as a total 189 players from the Atlanta Thrashers. In the 2001 /02 season he played mainly for their farm team, the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League and won with his team the Calder Cup. He knew especially in the final stages of the season to convince and received the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs. From 2002 to 2004 Nurminen had a regular place in the NHL team in the Thrashers, before the 2004/05 season to the Pelicans Lahti, who had ascended back into the SM- liiga in the meantime, returned. He left his hometown club, however, already in November 2004 again and played until his forced by a serious knee injury career end at the age of only 29 years after this season for the Malmö Redhawks in the Swedish Elitserien, whose descent he, however, despite a Gegentorschnitts of 2, 08 in the ten games of Kvalserien could not avoid.

In the summer of 2005, Nurminen co-owner of Pelicans Lahti, for whom he worked until 2012 as a goalkeeper coach. Since 2010 he works in the same position for the Finnish National Hockey Team. In the summer of 2012, he was obliged by HK Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League as an assistant coach.

Internationally

For Finland Nurminen participated in the World Championships in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in part. He also stood in 2005 -up from their country in the Euro Hockey Tour.
