Pasithea

Pasithea (Greek Πασιθέα, also Pasithee ) is one of the Charites in Greek mythology, also known as the Graces.

According to Homer ( Iliad 14,231 ff ) Hera had promised Hypnos, the god of sleep for a wife, if he helps her to sink into slumber Zeus (see also Pausanias Description of Greece 9.35.4 ). The marriage is mentioned in Catullus 63.43 and in the Anthologia Palatina 9.517. Probably after the wedding with the god of sleep, she was even the goddess of peace and relaxation, as well as the goddess of hallucinations.

In Nonnus of Panopolis Dionysiaca 31.103ff one of the Iliad is described analogous scene. Here, however, Hera is named as the mother of Pasithea.

Moreover Pasithea the name of one of the Nereids ( Hesiod Theogony 246).
