The Paso de Cortez is the deepest cut to the right of the antenna. The mountain on the left is the Iztaccihuatl, the right is the Popocatépetl

The Paso de Cortés, and Paso de Cortez, is a 3,700 m high pass in Mexico, which lies between the two volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the south to the north.

On November 3, 1519 Hernán Cortés crossed after the massacre at Cholula the pass, so as to advance into the Valley of Mexico and after Tenochtitlán, where he wanted to Moctezuma II, the then ruler of the Aztecs meet.
