Passage East

Passage East (Irish At Pasáiste Thoir ) is a small village in County Waterford in Ireland with 644 inhabitants ( as of 2006). With a ferry you can cross the funnel-shaped mouth of the Suir towards Bally Hack, Arthur Town in County Wexford. This passage represents the shortest distance between Waterford and Wexford and Rosslare Harbour, depart from where the ferry to Wales and France. Compared to the route via New Ross about 20 % can be saved. The counterpart forms the marina Passage West in Cork.

History

A year after Richard de Clare landed in Bannow, which is the beginning of the kombro - Norman invasion of Ireland, he returned back in 1170 with 200 knights and 1,000 men and landed in Passage East.

Nearby are the ruins of the Geneva Barack, a prison for thousands of rebels who were brought to the rebellion of 1798, out of the country lie.
