Passetto di Borgo

The Passetto di Borgo is 800 meters long, medieval escape passage connecting the Vatican to Castel Sant'Angelo. Was built in the Passetto 1277 by Pope Nicholas III. Outwardly an ordinary wall, hiding inside the passage, inter alia, the popes Clement VII ( the Sacco di Roma - the sack of Rome ) and Pius VII ( against Napoleon ) to escape from the Vatican in the difficult ingestible Castel Sant'Angelo helped.
