Passignano sul Trasimeno

Passignano sul Trasimeno is an Italian town in the province of Perugia in Umbria.

Geography

The town is located 29 km west of Perugia and 289 meters above sea level on the northern shores of Lake Trasimeno, has 5659 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

The districts include Castel Rigone, Col Piccione, Oliveto, Pischiello, San Donato, San Vito, Trecine and Le Pierle.

The neighboring municipalities are Castiglione del Lago, Lisciano Niccone, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno and Umbertide.

The place

From the medieval town of only two gates of the city wall and three towers remain, but the rest of the village had developed in the 15th and 16th centuries. From this time the churches of Chiesa di San Rocco and Santuario della Madonna dell'Oliveto come, last allegedly planned by Mariotto Radi from Cortona. The former fishing village is now a major tourist attraction on Lake Trasimeno and home port of the naval fleet for the connection between the islands and the tourist centers on the shores of the lake.

Events

The Palio delle Barche ( Palio of the boats) in July and the Festa della padella in September attract guests from afar.

Twinning

German twin town of Passignano is Eltville.

Economy

In Passignano sul Trasimeno since the early 1980s, the Italian racing team Coloni Motorsport residence, this took between 1987 and 1991 in Formula 1 and is active in the GP2 series under the name of Party Poker Racing.
