Password Authentication Protocol

Password Authentication Protocol ( PAP) is a method for the authentication over the Point-to- Point Protocol (PPP ), and is described in RFC 1334. It was often used for dial-up modems to network operators (ISP).

In PAP, the password for authentication is not encrypted with the user ID. It is so spied out by passive listening. This option is insecure against the more complex protocol CHAP. This method of access is checked by encryption and decryption of a random number.
