Pastéis de bacalhau

Bolinhos de Bacalhau or pastéis de bacalhau ( " cod cakes " ) are typical Portuguese appetizers ( Petiscos ), fried small balls of potato and bacalhau ( codfish ).

To prepare Bacalhau is first soaked in water, cooked, free and ground of skin and bones. An approximately equal amount of potatoes will be peeled and mashed. Both are mixed with the addition of eggs, seasoned with salt, pepper, nutmeg, onion and parsley smooth. From this farce be shaped into balls with two spoons and fried in olive oil. Bolinhos de Bacalhau be served hot or cold as an appetizer.
