Pat LaBarbera

Pascel Emmanuel " Pat" LaBarbera ( born April 7, 1944 in Mount Morris, New York) is a born in the United States, Canadian saxophonist (soprano, tenor and alto saxophone), flutist and clarinetist of modern jazz.

Pat LaBarbera comes from a musical family - his brothers are the trumpeter John LaBarbera and drummer Joe LaBarbera. He received music lessons from his father, he already played six years in the family band. From 1964-1967 LaBarbera studied at the Berklee College of Music and with private teachers. LaBarbera was ( heard on the album The New One! 1967 ) as a soloist in the big bands of Buddy Rich, where he played from 1967 to 1973 known. In addition, he appeared in TV shows, conducted their own formations and worked for example with Louie Bellson and Woody Herman.

In 1974 he moved to Toronto, Ontario and has taught at the music faculty of Humber College. La Barbera worked next with Elvin Jones (1975) and later toured with him through Europe ( 1979). Pat LaBarbera also played an important role in the formation of Canadian saxophonist. In the 1990s, he also played in the big bands of Dave McMurdo and Frank Mantooth. For his CD Deep In A Dream, he received in 2000 the Juno Award for best jazz album in the traditional jazz.
