Pat & Mat

Pat & Mat Pat and Mat also ( in the Czech original Pat a Mat) is a Czechoslovakian puppet animation TV series about two " home improvement ", Pat and Mat was invented it by Lubomir Beneš and Vladimír Jiránek. In Germany they are also under the name ... and you're done! known ( in the Czech original ... A je to! ); under this name they ran into fun on Tuesday.

The Movies

The films are about two neighbors who are faced with a problem and try to solve with tools and building materials. This always leads to further complications. Sometime it create the two but often this eventually to produce a satisfactory result with a highly unusual and inefficient solution.

According to the authors, it is the craftsmanship ineptitude that inspires these stories. The special feature of the series is not only the humor but also the optimistic outlook on life. The two actors always get into tricky situations, but never give up until they have solved the problem creatively.

The series is also known for its music by Petr Skoumal, which consists almost entirely of the title tune and harmonica music.

History

Pat and Mat dive first in 1976 in a short film The hobbyist (The Tinkers, in the original Kuťáci ), today Pat and Mat. Later, other short films of about 7-8 minutes in length in the series were published ... and you're done! ( ... and That 's It! , in the original ... A je to! ), where the two received their final appearance. In 1989, the two home improvement Pat and Mat were baptized, which is also the new name of the series was.

When the authors conceived the characters they wanted to make entertainment for adults, but the series is also popular among children. In the former Czechoslovakia, the first 35 episodes were produced only as a children's program.

The series was popular in some countries, eg in the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Iran.

Lubomir Beneš (died 1995) founded after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1990 his own AIF Studio in Prague and Zurich ( marketing, sales, finance ). There he and his team produced 14 more episodes, bringing all 49 on the international market.

Festivals, prices

Through the years, some of the Pat & Mat episodes were shown at international festivals and received awards and recognitions.

Of the recent films from Lubomir Beneš, the 38th episode The Cyclists (The Cyclists in the original Cyklisti ) shown in competition at the International Festival of Animated Film " Annecy '93 " (Annecy, France). Your Animator is Alfons Mensdorff -Pouilly. She was invited subsequently to most other festivals.

Successor

Later episodes also appeared on five DVDs; now also several German DVDs are available. Until now (2005) 78 movies have been filmed, with the idea and the characters of a partially new team - were taken - including Marek Beneš, son of Lubomir Beneš.
