Pat Patterson (wrestler)
Pierre Clémont, better known as Pat Patterson, ( born January 19, 1941) is a Canadian professional wrestler. Clémont won in 1979 as the first wrestler the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Career
1958 was Clémont his debut as a wrestler in Montreal. In the sixties, nine time World Tag Team Champion and six- time United States Champion he could be in the National Wrestling Alliance. The mid-seventies he left the NWA and was employed from 1979 in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). There Clémont won on 19 June 1979 against Ted DiBiase WWF North American Championship. These were combined in the same year with the South American Championship and the WWF Intercontinental Championship, with himself as the first title holder.
His " Alley Fight" Match against Sgt Slaughter on 4 May 1981 at Madison Square Garden is one of the best matches in the eighties and received by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as the price "Worked Match of the Year". In 1984 he ended his wrestling career. Then Clémont worked as a sports commentator and as a booker in wrestling and was a close associate of Vince McMahon. He stepped in front of the camera this time, often as simple-minded sidekick McMahon and was used for comedy segments. During this time, the WWF Hardcore Championship Clémont could win and was 59 years oldest institution of that title in the history of the WWF.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.
