Pat Rupp

Patrick Lloyd Rupp ( born August 12, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; † 2 February 2006) was an American professional ice hockey goaltender.

Career

Rupp began his career as a professional hockey player in 1963 in the Eastern Hockey League with the Philadelphia Ramblers. In the same season he took in a game for the Detroit Red Wings in part as a replacement for Terry Sawchuk in the National Hockey League. He played for the U.S. national ice hockey team at the Winter Olympics 1964 in Innsbruck. Rupp moved in the season 1964/65 to the Dayton Gems in the International Hockey League.

At the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble, France, he was again a member of the U.S. team. He won in 1969 along with his teammate John Adams, the James Norris Memorial Trophy.

In 1972 he announced his retirement from hockey, but still played the 1975/76 season in the North American Hockey League for the Buffalo Norsemen and 1979-80 for the Daytona Gems.

Pat Rupp died on 2 February 2006 from cancer.
