Patitiri

Patitiri (Greek Πατητήρι (n. sg. ), Wine ') is the name of the small port town in the south of the Sporades Alonissos and is now considered the main town. This got its name because here earlier on the island plenty of harvested grapes were pressed. The must was promoted with KAIKI boats to Volos. A phylloxera in the late 1960s destroyed the foundations of viticulture.

Once the capital of Alonissos, also called Chora, was destroyed by an earthquake with the magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale on March 9, 1965, the people moved to the harbor town of Patitiri who since become the administrative and shopping center the island has developed.
