Patriarch Jeremias II of Constantinople

Jeremiah II (* 1536 in Anchailo (now Pomorie in Bulgaria), † 1595 in Constantinople Opel ) surnamed Tranos ( ' a person of a penetrating mind ') was Patriarch of Constantinople Opel: on May 5, 1572 to November 23, 1579, August 1580 to February 22, 1584 and from April 1587 to September 1595.

He was born in Anchailo on the Black Sea, the son of an influential and well-known for their piety family. He probably studied at the Patriarchal Academy in Constantinople Opel.

Jeremiah was elected with 36 years for the first time the patriarch. He was the 173rd successor to the Apostle Andrew and the 19th ecumenical patriarch since the fall of Constantinople Opel in 1453.
