Patriarch Pyrrhus of Constantinople

Pyrrhus († June 1 654 in Constantinople Opel ) was Patriarch of Constantinople Opel December 20, 638 to 29 September 641 and again from 9 January to 1 June 654

Pyrrhus was one of the most enduring advocate of Monothelitism. When the riots after the death of Emperor Heraclius, he was overthrown and exiled to Africa. Pyrrhus returned under Martina and Heraklonas back from exile. He was overthrown with the two and exiled for the second time to Africa or fled there. He led in July 645, a faith discussion with Maximos Homologetes ( disputatio cum Pyrrho ), where the Byzantine Exarch of Carthage, Gregory took part.

Pyrrhus was I. received on a trip to Rome around the year 647 by Pope Theodore in honor, as he had sworn off Monothelitism. He returned about Ravenna back to Konstantin Opel and declared himself again for monotheletism. For this he was anathematized by the pope ( again on the Lateran Council 649 ). He officiated 654 another five months as the patriarch died at Pentecost 654
