Patriarch Theophilus III of Alexandria

Theophilos III. Pagkostas (* 1764 in Patmos, † January 24, 1833 ibid ) was 1805-1825 Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria.

Theophilus, 1798-1805 Metropolitan of Libya, in 1805, elected after the death of his predecessor Parthenius II, Patriarch of Alexandria. For health reasons, he went to Patmos 1819, without ever having to Alexandria. He actively participated in the Greek Revolution. Under pressure from the Ottoman government, he was deposed in 1825 by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Opel. Theophilus died penniless on Patmos and was buried in the St. John Monastery.
