Patrice Bart-Williams

Patrice Babatunde Bart-Williams ( born July 9, 1979 in Cologne ) is a German reggae singer and songwriter. He pulls his real name even the African name Babatunde ago. As an artist, he used the name Patrice.

Private life

Bart-Williams is the son of Gaston Bart-Williams, a writer from Sierra Leone, and a German mother. He received his second African names Babatunde because he was born on the day that his grandfather died. Babatunde means as much as " the rebirth of our beloved Father." Bart-Williams was regarded by his parents as a reincarnation of his grandfather. His European name Patrice is inspired by the Congolese national hero Patrice Lumumba.

He grew up in Kerpen near Cologne -Brüggen. His father died in a ferry accident when Patrice was eleven years old. Gaston Bart-Williams was working at the time on a three-part documentary about Africa: African roots ( ZDF). Bart-Williams was awarded a scholarship to boarding school Schule Schloss Salem at Lake Constance. As a " rebellious lone " he had to leave the boarding school, but was allowed to return after two years and placed there in 1999 from a high school. The music helped him across the worst of times.

He has two children with the Nigerian-German soul singer Ayo. Patrice lives in New York, Cologne and Paris.

Music

Patrice makes reggae music and sings some of patois, where his music also includes jazz, soul, funk and hip- hop elements.

Eventually he came to the label Yo Mama and accompanied in 1999 Lauryn Hill on their European tour. His debut album, Ancient Spirit, the follow-up album How Do You Call It? and the " mini-album " Silly Walks Movement Meets Patrice were published with some additions in Japan. Bart-Williams was a club member of Brothers Keepers and also sings himself in the group with songs like it or will we ever know.
