Patricia Routledge

Katherine Patricia Routledge CBE ( born February 17, 1929 in Birkenhead ) is a British actress in film, television and on stage. Worldwide notoriety she gained more apparent than in the role of snobs " Hyacinth Bucket " in the sitcom.

Life

Routledge was born on 17 February 1929 at the Birch header district Tranmere as the daughter of Cathreine and Isaac Routledge. Her father was a haberdasher and had his own business. She attended schools in Birkenhead and later studied in Liverpool English Language and Literature. Routledge had top grades and graduated with honors. At university she met her future good friend Edmund Colledge know who persuaded her to become an actress, which is why they still completed a drama degree at Bristol.

She lives in Chichester and is actively involved in the parish.

Career

Theater

Routledge stood for the first time professionally in the Liverpool Playhouse on the stage. She appeared in London's West End and on Broadway in numerous roles. So Routledge was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. For their performances in the plays When the Nightingale sang ... Richard III. and the operetta Candide, she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award, which she won in 1988 for Candide.

On Broadway, Patricia Routledge starred in some musicals. In 1968 she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Particularly successful she was in the role of Ruth in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance at New York's Off- Broadway. The production was a huge success and is considered one of the best production of this work. Due to this success they decided to film the fabric. Almost all the actors of the production were engaged for only Patricia Routledge was replaced because of their time not yet known in America by the name Angela Lansbury.

Film and Television

Since 1968 Routledge is a regular presence in film and television, with most of these films were shown only in Britain or the United States.

Worldwide fame and cult status it gained in 1990 in the sitcom Keeping Up Appearances in the role of Hyacinth Bucket, a British snob cliché that drives their attempts to achieve their environment more recognition and a higher social status in the madness. The series was a hit worldwide, it wure broadcast along with the United Kingdom in the USA, Australia and Canada, and repeated to this day. Routledge has been honored with several awards and left the show in 1996. Thereafter Routledge played the lead role in the crime series " Hetty Wainthropp Investigates". Today Routledge plays only rarely in movies and series.
