Patricio Urrutia

Patricio Javier Urrutia Espinoza (born 15 October 1977 in Zapotal, Los Ríos ) is an Ecuadorian footballer.

Club football

Urrutia began his Erstligakarriere in Guayaquil at the Barcelona Sporting Club. In 1997 he joined newly promoted FC Calvi from Machala. After the immediate re descent he remained in Serie A, but his new club Técnico Universitario from Ambato rose in the following year as well and so it went for him in the second division. But even during the season, he moved back into the top flight to Macará. There he finally managed to establish itself and the top clubs were aware of him.

In the 2002 season he was loaned to his former club Barcelona SC and reached as a central force in the midfield 2nd place in the championship. 2003 then made Liga de Quito in the race for his services and was followed by his first championship title. Since then, the specialist for free kicks and long shots regulars and a fixture at the capital club and 2005, he won a second title in the Apertura ( 2005 in Ecuador, exceptionally, two league titles, each half of the season one ) add 2007 to the third. In the 2008 season he won with Liga de Quito the final of the Copa Libertadores. During the tournament he scored four goals, including one in the final first leg. In the penalty shootout of the final, he transformed one of the three decisive penalty kicks. In August 2009, he joined the former opponent in the final.

On 20 December 2006, a period of four months for championships and international matches was imposed after he had actively taken part in a brawl between players from Liga de Quito and Barcelona SC Guayaquil following the last season game a few days earlier against him.

National

2004, when he played with Liga de Quito in the Copa Libertadores and internationally with the club survived the group stage, he also came to its first use in the Ecuadorian national soccer team. Although it was at a prestige victory of Ecuador to Brazil, but it was for some time his only game. Thus came the end of 2005 he was appointed to the banns of Ecuador for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany somewhat surprising. Nevertheless, he came to the tournament in his first game as a substitute use. He also took part in the Copa América 2007. On 15 June 2008 he scored in the World Cup qualifying away match against Argentina the opening goal to make it 1-0 for Ecuador, which nearly led to a historic away win his country since Argentina in the 93rd minute only by Rodrigo Palacio came to compensation.
