The Patrick Air Force Base is an airbase of the U.S. Air Force between Satellite Beach and Cocoa Beach in Brevard County, Florida. At the same time she is a census -designated place (CDP ) with 1,222 inhabitants ( 2010).

The base is home to the 45th Space Wing, whose members perform all unmanned rocket launches the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and is subordinate to the Air Force Space Command.

History

The base was opened Naval Air Station Banana River by the U.S. Navy on 1 October 1940. At that time, she served as seaplanes take off and landing place.

After the Second World War, the station was decommissioned and handed over on 1 September 1948, the U.S. Air Force, which they renamed the Joint Long Range Proving Ground. In August 1950, she received her final name of Patrick Air Force Base in honor of Major General Mason Patrick Mathews.

Demographics

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 3.5 % of all households lived in 59.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 85.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.00 persons and the average family size is 3.28 people.

34.4 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 53.3 % were 20-39 years old, 10.5% were 40-59 years old and 1.9 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 24 years. 55.9 % of the population were male and 44.1 % female.

The average annual income was $ 44,375, while 5.2% of the population lived below the poverty line.
