Patrick McCabe (novelist)

Patrick Joseph McCabe, also Pat McCabe ( born March 27, 1955 in Clones, County Monaghan ) is an Irish writer.

Life

By 2006, McCabe had published eight novels, a collection of short stories, a play and a children's book. He was known primarily for his internationally acclaimed novel The Butcher Boy ( engl. The Butcher Boy) dating from 1992, which was filmed by Neil Jordan. The book is considered by many critics as the "anti- pastoral " of Irish country life often described in a romantic light. It describes the development of the teenager Francie Brady in a small Irish town of broken home on the ( only found ) Employment in the slaughterhouse until complete loss of reality, including violent confrontation. As disturbing many readers felt well the consistent view of Francie's own perspective as well as the image of the "completely normal " small town world in Francie's eyes. The book was shortlisted choice for the Booker Prize in 1992.

Some of his other novels have also been translated into German. As the only Irish author McCabe came up with Winterwood shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2008.

In Bounty - Perrier 's Bounty, he appeared 2009.
