Patrick Newell

Patrick Newell ( born March 27, 1932 in Hadleigh, England; † July 22, 1988 in Essex, England ) was a British actor.

Life and career

Patrick Newell special characteristic was his corpulence. Was known primarily for its role as intelligence chief in the role of mother The Avengers and melon ( The Avengers ) end of the sixties.

After his school days he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, along with celebrities such as later Albert Finney and Peter O'Toole, whose acting skills after his modest assessment of his own performance far outstripped. Newell then submitted purposely put on weight in order to tap into such a niche role in the spectrum. He himself wrote the late seventies over in his entry in Who's Who On Television, he was an actor with a weight problem - the more he was declining, the fewer roles were offered to him.

Newell was soon frequently seen in television films and series, both in the comic as well as dramatic roles. In the latter case, these were mostly the role of obese villains. His rotund appearance and his talent to portray stupid types, predestined him for the role of sidekick in various comedy shows and series. He got his first film role in 1955 in the movie Dial 999, but the deals to Patrick Newell covered mostly the same character class. Ultimately, Newell was thus set to this role specialist, making him in his later career often disabled, however, he had great acting talent, which benefited in particular from his expressive facial expressions. Really good deals failed to materialize, however. Alone in 1981, Newell played solid roles in three television series, of which, however, had no real success.

His body weight that Newell had appropriated to remain in demand in the theater business, was also likely the cause of Patrick Newell's short life. He died in 1988 of heart failure.
