Patrick Watson (musician)

Patrick Watson ( born 1979 ) is a Canadian singer- songwriter, and since 2003, frontman of the band named after him, whose indie rock music Cabaret Pop, has influences of jazz, psychedelic and classical music. For this reason, he is often compared to Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley.

Biography

Watson was born in California but grew up in Hudson (Quebec ), where he attended Lower Canada College. At Vanier College in Montreal, he received training as a classical pianist and founded with friends from high school, the ska band Gangster Politics. Later he left the group in 2001 and gave his debut with the purely instrumental solo album waterproof9, the result of a musical- visual collaboration with fellow photographer Brigitte Henry, whose underwater portraits Waterproof / Portraits sous l'eau formed the basis.

After another solo attempt was formed by Watson as the lead vocalist, pianist and keyboardist, a four -piece band from Simon Angell (guitar, banjo), Mishka Stein ( bass) and Robbie Kuster (drums). In the studio and on tour collaborated Patrick Watson, among others, John Cale, The Cinematic Orchestra, Amon Tobin, The Dears, Philip Glass, The Stills, Feist and James Brown.

The band in 2003 recorded their first album, Just Another Ordinary Day. The big breakthrough came with the 2006 but only published on Secret City Records album Close to Paradise, which won the Polaris Music Prize on September 24, 2007. In addition, Watson was nominated for a Canadian Juno Award for New Artist of the Year 2007, but lost it Tomi Swick. The track The Great Escape was used for an episode of the third season of the American TV series Grey's Anatomy.

For the book published in May 2007 album Ma Fleur by The Cinematic Orchestra Patrick Watson wrote four tracks, for which he also took over the vocals (To Build a Home, Music Box, Into You and That Home). His Missing You - Remix by Guy Doune, a track of Electro- musician champion, was able to record chart hits in Canada.

Brett Novak ( filmmaker ) and Kilian Martin ( skaters ) have the song Fireweed from the album Wooden Arms as a soundtrack for the video Kilian Martin: A Skate Regeneration used.

For April 2012, the release of the fifth album Adventures in your own back yard is provided, together with a tour of Europe and North America.
