Patrik Berger

Patrik Berger ( born November 10, 1973 in Prague ) is a former Czech football player.

Career

Association

Berger first played from 1991 to 1995 at Slavia Prague, where he scored 24 goals in 65 games. He was obliged in 1995 as a technical exceptional talent in the midfield of Borussia Dortmund. In the 1995/1996 season Berger completed 27 games for Dortmund and was coached by Ottmar Hitzfeld, German champion.

The Czech changed but in the very next season to England for Liverpool FC. There he developed after the successful European Football Championship in 1996 an outstanding midfielder. However, Berger suffered frequently from injuries. In 2003 he moved to FC Portsmouth, 2005 Aston Villa. There he was singled out in November 2006, after he allegedly refused to play for the reserve team. On loan Berger moved to second division club Stoke City.

After his good performances in the second division Berger played in the spring of 2007 for the first time for Aston Villa, scoring on 7 April in the game against Blackburn Rovers scored his first goal in two years. Even in the penultimate game of the season against Sheffield United he could sign the scoresheet, he failed in his three years in Birmingham, however, to fight for a regular place.

For the season 2008/ 09 Berger moved to Sparta Prague. In the Czech record holder, the midfielder has signed a two -year contract. Beginning of 2010 ended Berger because of continuing problems with his knee his active career.
