Patrimonialism

Patrimonialism is an expression whose modern meaning has been defined by Max Weber. He used it as a description for a political system that is based on administrative and military structures, which in turn are bound by instructions a sole ruler. Examples of patrimonial states include Indonesia under Suharto and the Philippines under Ferdinand Marcos.
