Patrizia von Brandenstein

Patrizia von Brandenstein ( born November 17, 1939 in Phoenix, Arizona) is an American film designer and costume designer of Russian descent.

Life

The daughter of Russian emigrants traveled as a young woman for a long time in Europe and spent two years in France as a trainee at the Comédie Française. In the 1960s, worked von Brandenstein as a backdrop painter, props and seamstress at the theater. She has worked among others at the Actors Studio. From 1966 on, she worked for eight years as a costume and set designer at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Her first notable costume designs she delivered in the autumn of 1968 for the productions of ' The Front Page ' and ' Do not Shoot Mable It's Your Husband '. In the fall of 1969 followed by a further Costume design for the play ' Trumpets and Drums '.

In 1971 she joined the film. It began with the equipment for the film Bill McKay - The Candidate with Robert Redford. In 1977 she rose to become chief architect. Since then, she has worked with renowned directors such as Milos Forman, Mike Nichols, Sam Raimi or Brian De Palma. Their biggest challenge, at the same time Brandenstein's biggest film success, 1983/84 was the musician 's biography Amadeus, for which she was allowed to create a comprehensive rococo ensemble.

It is with the Production Designer Stuart Wurtzel ( born 1940 ) married, whom she met during her time in San Francisco.

Awards

  • For their designs to Amadeus in 1985 awarded by Brandenstein an Oscar. She was also nominated in 1982 for Ragtime and 1988 for The Untouchables - The Untouchables.
  • Also for Amadeus was in 1986 nominated for the BAFTA Award.
  • In 1993 she won the Below-The -Line Award from the Gotham Awards.
