Patti LaBelle is the debut album of American soul singer Patti LaBelle from the year 1977. It is the first album that LaBelle after 16 years in her band Labelle (originally Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles ) recorded solo. On October 13, 1977, the album on CBS Records, Columbia Records and West Side Records was published. Background information

Before Labelle recorded the album, she wanted to withdraw as lead singer of her successful girl group Labelle, from the music business after almost 20 years. After the group had separated in March 1977, there were tensions in their eight-year marriage to Armstead Edwards, they sought marriage counseling on. After they had settled their differences, her husband was now her manager. Labelle went into the studio and began work on her eponymous debut album. Labelle recorded the album in New Orleans. David Rubinson served as producer, last like on Labelle's album before her separation from her band, Chameleon, later Rubinson worked about with the Pointer Sisters.

Labelle signed a recording contract with Epic Records. The release of their debut album was announced for October 1977. During this time, the first single Joy to Have Your Love a small R & B hit, and the dance number Dan Swit Me was quite successful in the dance charts. The most successful song of the album was a ballad titled You Are My Friend, composed of LaBelle, Edwards and LaBelle's mentor, James " Budd " Ellison.
