Paul Alivisatos
Armand Paul Alivisatos ( born November 12, 1959 in Chicago) is an American chemist at the University of California, Berkeley.
Life
Up to the age of ten Alivisatos lived in Chicago until his family moved to Athens, where he also received his education. To study Alivisatos moved back to the United States. He graduated in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Chicago and in 1986 Charles Harris at the University of California, Berkeley, a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. As a postdoctoral fellow he worked with Louis Brus at AT & T Bell Laboratories. In 1988 he received a professorship at the University of California, Berkeley, where he (as of 2012) is Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and professor of nanotechnology today. He is one of the leading technical staff of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Thomson Reuters is one Alivisatos with 93 original works that have been cited more than 14,000 times, at paragraph 5 of his list of " Top chemist 2000-2010 ". Since 2013 it is one of Thomson Reuters due to the number of its citations to favorites to a Nobel Prize (Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates ).
Work
Alivisatos is a pioneer in the field of physical chemistry of semiconductor nanocrystals. It deals with the structural, thermodynamic, optical and electrical properties of colloidal inorganic nanocrystals. He was able to develop synthesis procedures for size control and establish the first applications of these new materials.
