Paul Aste

Paul Aste ( born December 5, 1916) is a former Austrian luger and Bobsportler.

Paul Aste was one of the most successful luge after the Second World War. He won the first post-war European Championship 1951 in Igls front of his countrymen Willi pool and Hermann Mayr Egger. In 1952 he had to settle for the silver medal behind Rudolf Maschke. A second and a third time he was in 1953 and 1955 European champion. In doubles, he won in 1952 along with Heinrich Isser the European Championship a year later behind Hans Krausner / Wilhelm pool silver. In 1955 he was European champion again with Heinrich Isser.

1955 was able to win a world championship medal in bobsleigh Aste also, in the two- Josef Isser he scored the second place. In 1958 he succeeded with Heinrich Isser turn the leap onto the podium, this time he was in third place, also in the two-man bob.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck, he said, the Olympic Oath during the opening ceremony on 29 January. In the same year he received the Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria
