Paul Bach-y-Rita

Paul Bach -y- Rita ( born April 24, 1934 in New York; † 20 November 2006) was an American neurophysiologist. He dealt mainly with issues of rehabilitation after injuries to the brain. Based on the theoretical assumption of the neuroplasticity of the brain he introduced in 1969 together with colleagues ideas for a machine before translating the images of a camera in vibration signals and should find their way to help the blind. Since the beginning of the 21st century, such machines are being tested and used in the classroom with children with disabilities and in the rehabilitation of war-disabled and stroke victims.

He donated in honor of the University of Wisconsin Foundation, the Paul Bach -y -Rita Lectureship Fund.
