Paul Badura-Skoda

Paul Badura -Skoda ( born October 6, 1927 in Vienna) is an Austrian pianist.

Life

Winning the Austrian Music Competition in 1947 marked the beginning of his career. His teacher was Edwin Fischer. Since 1949 he has performed with leading conductors such as Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan. There followed an international career.

Emphasis to his extensive repertoire ( from him, there are more than 200 recordings ) are works by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.

For a pianist of his rank rather unusual is its early attention to historical performance practice. Became famous his complete recordings of the piano sonatas of Mozart and Schubert on historic wings at the label Astrée.

Paul Badura -Skoda entered - some with his wife Eva Badura -Skoda - as a music writer and editor of business spending in appearance. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim. He also wrote cadenzas for piano concertos by Mozart.

Several rehearsed by him CDs have been released at the Leipzig classical label Genuin. In 1991 he performed Mozart piano sonatas of the composer in Regensburg.
